The original US Patent granted in 1878 to the founder of the Missouri Meerschaum Pipe Company was for a finishing method that included the application of a proprietary blend of Plaster of Paris and seven herbs and spices. This photo from Life Magazine shows the bowls (and the operator) being covered with this compound.
The "Aristocob" pipe was manufactured from the 1960's by Al Cobb Corp, and into the early 1980's by Missouri Meerschaum. It featured a replaceable corn cob core in an aluminum Art Deco bowl. We've retired our old Aristocob.com site, where we offered sweet smoking factory-fresh Missouri Meerschaum Corn Cob Pipes, but I still smoke them daily and am happy to curate links to my favorites on Amazon.
